Himalaya International Festival 2013



 The 3rd Himalaya International festival was organised from 6-10 August, 2013 at Gantok, Sikkim, India. The festival has organised by Himalayan Heritage Research and Development Society (HHRDS), Bhurung Busty, East Sikkim in collaboration with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Sikkim University, Gangtok and Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The festival was organised at the aim to showcasing the Himalayan culture and also to provide a platform for culture dialogues to establish harmony and fraternity among the Himalayan state and countries as well. The following programmes have presented-
1.    Exhibition: Focused on the traditions of Himalayan ethnic art and artefacts. Venu: Department of Music, Sikkim University, Date: 6-8 August 2013.
2.   Cultural Programmes: Presentation of Music, Dance and Traditional Fashion Show. Venu: Sikkim Government College Auditorium, Tadong, Gangtok, Date: 8 August 2013, From 11 AM to 8:30 PM.
3.   Sminaar: Topic of the seminar- The cultural tradition and indigenous knowledge of Himalayan ethnic group.Venu: Sikkim University Conference Hall, Sikkim. Date: 9-10 August 2013.

About 165 Masks, 68 Musical Instruments and 285 Artefacts were exhibited in the exhibition. The exhibition was inaugurated by Lepcha Maestro Padmashree Sonam Tshering Lepcha and Padmashree Hildamit Lepcha. About 535 artist from Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet and Himalayan states of the country have participated Sikkim performed their colourful dances and Music. The cultural programme was inaugurated by Shri Bhim Prasad Dhungel Honourable Minister for tourism, Govt. of Sikkim and Prof. T.B. Subba was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Eminent hindi litterateur Shri Vibhuti Narayan Rai (Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishvavidyalya,Wardha) and Nepali novelist Shri Shankar Dev Dhakaal were conferred ‘Himalay Srijan Samman’ 2013 for their contribution in field of literature.



 An International conference on preservation of Himalayan culture and tradition was also organized at the conference Hall of Sikkim University on 9th and 10th   August, 2013. The seminar was chaired by Dr Om Prakash Bharati festival director and Professor at Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University,Wardha. Mr. Jayant Barman, Ms. Samidha Bedvala, Dr K Indira Madhav Taaamule, Ridhima Sundas, Mr BL Khamdhok  Dr Anuja Supriya, Dr Mahendra Kumar, Samir Mitra Kumar Gaurav, Dharma Prakash Manto, Ravindra Kumar Munde and Susma Pandey were present their research papers.
The festival was designed by Dr. Omprakash Bharti. The festival receives grand success and appreciation in the region.
