2-day long Rabindra Lok Utsav concludes
11 Jun,Singtam: Celebrating 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore a two-day festival of folk performing arts has been organised at Nepali Dharmasala,Singtam.The festival has been organised by the Himalayan Heritage Research and Development Society, Sikkim with the support of North East Zone Cultural Centre (Ministry of culture, Govt. of India),Dimapur.Artists from Assam, Bengal and different parts of Sikkim has participated in the festival.
The festival has been inaugurated on 10th June 2012 by eminent Lepcha Music maestroPadmashree Sonam Tshering Lepcha and Prof. Om Prakash Bharti (Chairman, HHRDS), other dignitaries of the town Smt. Sumi Rai, and members from Singtam municipal Council Mr.Saran Pradhan.Mr. T.B Pradhan,Mr. Mohan Pradhan,Mrs. AnitaTamang,Mr. Pravin Pradhan were also present to grace the occasion. The first day programme began with the singing of Rabindra Sangeet by Ganga Mukhia and GeetaSharma. The eminent music exponent and Asstt. Prof. at Sikkim University Mr.Jayanta Barman presented Bhawaiya Song of North Bengal. The artists from Assam Kaluli Basumatari presented Rabha folk dance and Samiran Deka presented Bihu Dance.Sri NarenRoy and Smt. Sumitra Roy presented DoitaraGaan of North Bengal.BawulGaan was presented by Siddheswar Roy and Kushan Gaan was presented by Bijoy Roy.A lovely dance drama had been presented by the disciples of Sumi Rai based on Rabindra Sangeet.The troupled by Laxmi Gurgai from Bhurung Buaty presented Sangini and popular opal gainey presented Gainey Geet.
The festival was followed by the Seminar in next day.Dr. Mahendra Kumar from Patna,Mr. SameerMitra from Kolkata, Dr. Anuja Supriya from Delhi, Mr. Sameeran Deka fromGuwahati, Dr. Sunil Kumar Suman from Wardha had presented their papers on the association of Rabindra Nath Tagore with folk arts. The seminar was chaired byProf. Om Prakash Bharti.The programme was compared by Miss Neeti Rai.
